Sign up and Support Fraud Week 2019
/Anti-fraud professionals know that while it’s best to catch fraud as soon as possible, it’s even better to stop fraud before it happens — which is why active fraud prevention is a critical part of anti-fraud strategies for organizations of any size. Some people might still be afraid to talk about fraud, believing that if they raise the topic, employees may either be inspired to commit fraud or think that a large fraud has just taken place. Discussing fraud openly with employees is a great way to help prevent it.
As an ACFE Chapter Leader, an opportune time to talk about fraud prevention within your organization and your community is during International Fraud Awareness Week (Fraud Week), November 17-23, 2019. Many of you signed up last year, and we would love to extend the invitation to sign up again this year. As an ACFE Chapter, you are an important ambassador for fraud awareness, and joining in Fraud Week efforts helps demonstrate that to the public.
Chapters can do a variety of things to support Fraud Week — you can hold your monthly chapter event during the week, post fraud awareness posters in public places in your community, or volunteer members of your chapter as experts to talk to different groups. The first step to getting involved is for your chapter to sign up as a supporter at FraudWeek.com. Once you’ve signed up, please use any of the resources we’ve provided to help bolster your activities. Here are some of the newest resources we’ve added this year for your use:
An updated fraud knowledge quiz — Do you know your fraud facts? Test your knowledge about the Fraud Triangle, tax fraud and more with this quiz.
A new official supporter badge and social media badges — We’ve revamped the Fraud Week social media badges and have a fresh design for the official supporter badge. You can put the supporter badge on your chapter website, or in your email signature, to show that you support fraud awareness.
Host an event with a game or challenge — The ACFE has again purchased a number of Fraud Week branded giveaways for supporters to use as prizes for their events. If you are interested in obtaining some of these giveaway prizes, please email ACFE’s Public Information Officer, Sarah Hofmann. Please describe your event and indicate the number of prizes you would like. Please note that supplies are limited, and these are first come, first served.
Also, remember to submit any events your chapter is holding to the events page on FraudWeek.com so we can help promote them. No matter how your chapter chooses to use this week, any work you do will help to reduce and mitigate fraud risk.
