Each year at our ACFE Global Annual Conference, we ask the host city’s chapter to put on an event and donate the proceeds to support the Ritchie-Jennings Scholarship Program. When we first heard the Middle Tennessee Chapter was planning on throwing an event that was music-related at the 28th Annual ACFE Global Fraud Conference in Nashville, all sorts of ideas came to mind. When we learned their hard work was coming to fruition and they were able to organize the legendary Charlie Daniels Band to perform for our group at historic Ryman Auditorium, we knew the event was going to be special.

Once we knew the concert was moving forward, the next step was to determine the cost of the concert. After learning the chapter was also going to be covering the catering costs, and all proceeds would go directly to the ACFE Foundation, we agreed that $40 was a generous price for access to the Ryman, the Ryman museum, food and the concert.

When the chapter finalized the deal, they also negotiated a few back stage passes and a meet and greet with Charlie Daniels himself. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet the legendary country music artist who signed autographs, CDs and other memorabilia.

The concert began shortly after 8 p.m. and the band played for well over an hour. The more hits he played, the louder and more involved the crowd became. For his final song, they played their epic fiddle battle hit, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.” It was extremely impressive to watch the band play and it was such a memorable experience overall.

After all the planning and wondering if people would even be interested, I was thrilled when the show sold out.

The sold-out concert had more than 800 in attendance and more than $30,000 was raised for the ACFE Foundation!

We owe a big thank you to everybody at the Middle Tennessee Chapter who worked so hard in organizing this event. Also, thank you to everybody who attended the concert and helped raise so much for the ACFE Foundation.

Charlie was a true gentleman and he put on a show to be remembered.
