Chapter Awards Presented in Seattle
/Each year at the ACFE Global Fraud Conference, the ACFE recognizes local chapters that have gone above and beyond their missions by presenting the Chapter of the Year award. Beginning in 2023, the ACFE will begin recognizing two chapters for the annual award. Additionally, the ACFE will also begin presenting an award for the chapter’s commitment of time and donations to charitable causes and outreach. The 2023 Chapters of the Year were given to the New York Chapter and the Southwest Ohio Chapter. The Chapter Community Service & Outreach award was presented to the South Florida Chapter.
Chapter of the Year Award Winners
The New York Chapter held 10 chapter events in 2022 which provided nearly 30 CPE credits (NASBA approved). Two of these events were full one-day events with multiple speakers. They held 7 virtual and 3 in-person events. They also hosted a holiday networking event with the InfraGard NYC Metro Chapter which brought the two organizations together with common goals of providing training and fraud awareness. The New York Chapter subsidized much of the cost for this event to encourage attendees from both organizations to participate.
The NY Chapter offered free memberships to new CFEs in the New York region. The chapter president speaks regularly at local universities about getting students involved and the advantages of becoming a CFE. The chapter also raffled away several CFE Exam Prep Courses to local members to assist them in their goals of becoming certified.
Since 2021, the Southwest Ohio Chapter has focused its efforts to increase its membership. They’ve done this by increasing the number of events and CPE credits they’ve offered, keeping costs low, and building rapport with their membership. Their chapter hosted 8 trainings including their annual conference, their Dayton Fraud, Cyber & Ethics Conference, which was held virtually over two half-day sessions.
The Southwest Ohio Chapter only charges $20 for CFEs and $25 for Associate members. For most meetings (virtual), they only charge $15 for 1 or 2 CPE credits. All CPE credits are valid for CFEs and Ohio CPAs, including the 2-hour ethics CPE credits they offer. They’ve also started handing out chapter-branded challenge coins to members who renewed their membership and attended in-person events and handed out other raffle prizes to encourage in-person attendance. These efforts have seen their membership double since 2021.
The South Florida Chapter won the first Chapter Community Service & Outreach award. In total, they provided financial support of more than $8,000 between four different organizations. Along with financial assistance, board members and chapter members volunteered their time, serving lunch for residents overcoming homelessness. They also spent their time refreshing the lobby at a local Children’s Home which helps restore the lives of children and families.
The South Florida Chapter also issued 8 Professional Scholarships by providing qualified candidates a CFE Exam Prep Course to pursue their certification. They also continued their annual contribution to the ACFE Foundation with a $15,305 donation in 2022.
These are just a few of the accomplishments these chapters had in 2022. To view their full nomination forms detailing their efforts in 2022, please review their submission forms.
