Use of Images on Your Social Media Sites

Using images on your chapter’s website or other social media is very important. Using relevant images makes your sites look pretty, they will capture people’s attention and more. Most chapter websites that I have seen do a great job incorporating images into their sites. However, it is important to be sure that the images you use are properly licensed.

Recently, a chapter used a photo on its website and LinkedIn page they were not authorized to use. They were contacted by the photographer who threatened legal action unless they were compensated. The chapter ultimately settled with the photographer to avoid going to court.

Shortly after the chapter experienced this, the ACFE was also contacted by a copyright troll regarding the use of a photo on our site. Thankfully, our legal team was able to find the license of the image.

This serves as a painful reminder to be sure you are authorized to use the images. The ACFE offers a solution by having a library of stock images that chapters can use. You can find them by going to the Chapter Leaders Discussion Forum and clicking on Library. If you are looking for images of your city, a skyline, etc., you are also welcome to email me at JBroccolo@acfe.com, and I will have our design team create an image for you.

Also, chapters are an extension of the ACFE and by adhering to a standard set of guidelines, chapters are immediately recognized as local leaders in the anti-fraud profession. Therefore, it is important for all ACFE chapters to use their official ACFE chapter logos and follow ACFE Chapter Branding guidelines. If your chapter has not received its ACFE-approved chapter logos, please email me and we will create them for you.
